Last words of a dying man that completely changed my life.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Could you come up with anything? How many of you were able to think of that specific thing right away when the question was raised? Not me, to be honest. We don’t really consider some of the things we’ve done or the changes we’ve made, especially the little ones, to be accomplishments because we don’t think they’re that big of a deal.

What exactly is an accomplishment?

An accomplishment need not be something revolutionary or incredibly important that you did for the nation. It might also be a minor detail. When you achieve something that wasn’t particularly easy for you, you gain an accomplishment. They look different on different people. My best accomplishments in 2022 have been few, but the one I’m most proud of is the habit of “eating well” and changing my way of life.

You must now be wondering how challenging eating healthfully could possibly be; after all, it’s an easy process. I understand your POV; before I had to start practising this habit on myself, I had the same thought process.

How did it all begin?

So, like the rest of us, I once believed that eating home-made food was equivalent to eating nutritious meals. I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but for more than 20 years of my life, I was functioning under this mindset. It was January 2022, and I was scrolling through Instagram when I stumbled upon an article published about Steve Jobs’ last comments in his last few days.

The last words of Steve Jobs

For those who are unfamiliar with Steve Jobs, he was a billionaire and the founder of Apple as well as other multimillion-dollar businesses. So, before he died, he expressed his perspectives on life and how it should be lived. He stated several comments, but this one in particular caught my attention.

He said, and I quote,

“Eat your food as your medicine; otherwise, you have to eat medicine as your food.”

It was time to make a change.

This quote might look very simple to some of you, but I was so overwhelmed when I read it and realised that I’m not doing justice to my body by eating junk food and causing a little damage to my health every day. On that day, I kept going back to this remark all day long, and the next thing I knew, I was taking out a gym membership.

I used to work out prior to 2022, but I was never consistent. It wasn’t an easy road for sure; the first two months were particularly hard on me, but I didn’t give up because I knew what this change was going to reward me with.

I had that clarity in my head; I didn’t need any external motivation anymore. I knew what I was doing and, more importantly, why I was doing it, and when you know what you’re working for, nothing can shake you up, come what may.

I’ve been on the same path for a year now. I work out every day and eat well, and I’ve changed for the better. Working out is the healthiest thing I could have done for my body, and I’m glad this change came into my life.

Because when you feel good on the inside, it reflects on the outside.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Getting back to where we started Thus, embracing a healthier lifestyle was one of my greatest accomplishments. I’m sure everyone of you has probably changed something in your lives that has helped you become a better person. Take a moment to reflect on it and give yourself some credit for it.

Choose a new habit and strive to incorporate it into your life. This will bring you one step closer to your higher self. Doing something good for yourself is a feeling you never want to miss out on.
